I’m Liz, the Befriender Coordinator here at KASP. I come from a background of supporting people. I have worked in the substance use field for over 15 years. I worked in a male prison for 11years as a Substance Use Caseworker. I found this work very rewarding and met so many people in my life who were amazingly resilient. I discovered that a lot of people spending time incarcerated were victims of trauma themselves. Many have suffered childhood sexual abuse and this sparked an interested in me to become involved in supporting those who have experienced this form of abuse. I have now been at KASP for just over 2 years and in that time I have been lucky to work with our wonderful volunteer befrienders who offer a fantastic, supportive and inclusive service to our befrienders, allowing them to be more connected to their communities. In my personal life I am a mother and grandmother. I have a beautiful lurcher dog who gives me a great excuse to go for long walks, and a beautiful little kitten, who keeps me active and on my toes.
