Youth and Philanthropy Initiative
KASP was excited to be nominated by a group of students from St Andrews High in Kirkcaldy for the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) for this year.
The YPI is a powerful active citizenship programme, empowering young people to make a difference in their communities while developing a range of skills.
YPI engages the students, developing skills and confidence through a contextualised learning experience. The programme raises awareness of social issues and local charities and is a vital means of devolved, locally driven grant-making. YPI encourages and supports schools to connect with their local communities to enable the impactful delivery of the programme.

Since being introduced to Scotland in 2008, (by the Wood Foundation) the YPI has engaged more than 310,000 young people who have taken responsibility for £6.8m of charitable giving.
YPI is the biggest independent initiative being delivered in Scottish education. Each school is responsible for directing a grant of £3000 to a local charity championed by its students through a unique programme of teamwork, research, and competition.
In May this year KASP was approached by a group of students from St Andrews High School who were interested in finding out more about what KASP does in the community and the services that we offer in Fife.
Susan, our administrator, took the call and arranged to meet the students to give them information about KASP. She passed on information about all of the services we offer including our counselling, responsive and support service, befriending service, group work and volunteering opportunities.
The students then went away and researched childhood sexual abuse and its effects. They then put together a board about KASP using our logo, some statistics and other relevant information. The students then developed a presentation and delivered it to the school on Tuesday 21st May.
Susan reported back that the competition was strong but the students representing KASP won the £3000 for KASP.
KASP is absolutely delighted to receive the funding which we will use to provide group work for clients accessing our services, enabling them to gain a better understanding of how childhood sexual abuse effects them as adults and help build confidence, increased self-esteem and learn tools to assist with anxiety and stress.
