Meet Debbie
Hi, I’m Debbie. I started working with KASP in October 2021 as a Responsive Worker offering practical and / or emotional support.
The Responsive Worker role is to support clients in the ‘here and now’ giving clients who are in crisis mode support for several weeks to discuss their difficulties in a safe, trusting environment. Following the end of these sessions the client is then offered an opportunity to engage with counselling if they feel that is required.
Through building a trusting relationship, some clients find that this service is enough for them to continue with their day-to-day life having learnt some coping techniques and gaining a better understanding of the reasons behind their difficulties. This role is so rewarding for me. I can support vulnerable people and make a small difference to the way my clients cope, and more importantly helping them to understand their own trauma.
An additional part of my role is to offer short term support to male victims of domestic abuse who are referred to us from the MARAC system. We recognise the huge lack of services available to support male victims in Fife. Admitting to being abused is difficult for anybody, but men often don’t have the social and support networks in place to easily tell a friend or family member. These topics can be difficult for anybody to raise or disclose, but in particular, men may not have relationships in which they can open up and talk about their personal lives. We hope to continue to offer this very much needed service.
I like nothing more than building a healthy relationship with my clients, and it’s an absolute bonus that KASP is such a wonderful supportive team to work with. I couldn’t be happier.
