JORDAN, Befriender Co-ordinator

Meet Jordan

I joined KASP in November last year and have loved my time here so far. My professional background is primarily in further education lecturing, as well as live music, youth work and the NHS. My academic focus on trauma and trauma recovery drew me to KASP, where I was inspired by the profound impact of the charity’s work. The role of Befriending Coordinator gives me the opportunity to be a part of survivors’ recovery journeys in a meaningful way post-counselling. Being in this supportive network is a privilege, and I am grateful to work within this multidisciplinary team.

I work here on a part-time basis, bringing clients together with volunteer befrienders to support them in building confidence and reconnecting with their communities. I recruit and train volunteers, focusing on trauma-informed practices and key support techniques like active listening and motivational interviewing. This foundation prepares them to assist clients effectively. After induction, I continue to provide ongoing support and supervision for the volunteer befriender team and work closely with our counsellors to support clients at the end of their counselling experience.

Alongside my role at KASP, I am also working toward becoming a Chartered Health Psychologist. My current research is focused on virtual reality interventions for reducing stress, in collaboration with the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre. Previously, I have explored areas of neuropsychology including recovered and false memories, how external factors impact our accuracy in recall as well as pain management and the interconnection of the mind and body.
