A celebration of courage and compassion, that has shaped KASP over three decades.

What an incredibly proud and meaningful moment for everyone at KASP as we marked 30 years of supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse. This milestone wasn’t just about looking back — it was a celebration of courage, compassion, and the collective commitment that has shaped KASP over three decades.

We were truly touched by the number of people who joined us for the celebration, as well as those who sent messages of support before and after the event. Your kindness and encouragement meant so much to the whole team.

Behind the scenes, the KASP staff dedicated countless hours to bringing this evening to life. From late‑night planning sessions to creative brainstorming, reflection, and forward‑thinking vision, the event was a real team effort. A special thank‑you goes to Isla, Anne, Susanne, Lyn, and Karen, whose hard work and heart were at the core of the celebration.

Sharing Our Story in a Meaningful Way

One of our biggest questions while planning was:
How do we share KASP’s story — our beginnings, our growth, and our future vision — in a way that truly resonates with our guests?

We knew it was important to honour the voices of our clients and the journey they have taken with us. To capture this, we chose to weave together art, visuals, recorded messages, and powerful quotes. This combination allowed survivors’ voices to be heard throughout the evening, creating an atmosphere filled with empathy, strength, and connection.

The result was a heartfelt and moving experience that reflected not only the resilience of survivors but also the passion, care, and dedication that the KASP team brings to this work every single day.

Emotional Baggage

Isla, our Counsellor, demonstrated emotional baggage, knows as ‘The Bag Lady’ or ‘The Bag Man’.
Emotional baggage, in the context of trauma, refers to the unresolved experiences we carry from the past that continue to influence us in the present. It often shows up through current behaviours, emotional reactions, and even physical symptoms. This “weight” or “invisible armour” shapes how a person responds to today’s situations through the filter of earlier fear, hurt, or distress. This was a powerful demonstration, many attendees were able to resonate.

EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE

“It was a real honor to stand up and share my passion and gratitude for KASP, the whole team and the many survivors I have worked with over the years”. I felt myself tearing up seeing how much KASP has grown over the years and all the genuine feelings shared from an amazing team, the drive and vision we share in moving forward and supporting more and more survivors”.

“What an incredible night! It was a true privilege to share KASP’s journey with our local community, partner services, friends, families, and clients. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so much compassion gathered in one room at the same time. I’m incredibly proud to be part of this team and everything KASP stands for. It was a truly magical evening.”
