Raising Awareness of Childhood Sexual Abuse

September 2025

The month of September marks Childhood Sexual Abuse Awareness Month in the UK, an annual event dedicated to raising awareness around the issue of childhood sexual abuse and its impact on survivors. The month serves to break the silence, stigma, and shame often associated with this type of abuse, encouraging communities to work together to create safer environments for children.

Key aspects of Childhood Sexual Abuse Awareness Month:

  • Raising Awareness:

The month highlights the importance of educating the public and professionals about child sexual abuse, including its forms and effects.

  • Breaking the Silence:

A primary goal is to break the silence and stigma surrounding the abuse, making it easier for survivors to come forward and seek support.

  • Supporting Survivors:

The awareness month emphasizes the importance of supporting survivors and providing them with resources and a safe space to heal.

  • Promoting Safer Communities:

By working together, communities aim to ensure that every child grows up in a safe and nurturing environment.

  • Professional Education:
The month also focuses on educating professionals in various sectors, including social care, health, education, and law enforcement, on how to identify and respond to child sexual abuse.

KASP’s intentions for the month of September

Awareness is the first step in addressing childhood sexual abuse. At Kingdom Abuse Survivors Project (KASP), we are committed to raising understanding and building knowledge throughout this important awareness month.

As part of our efforts, we will be sharing a series of informative weekly blogs. These have been shaped by ideas from our dedicated team. To begin the month, we’re honoured to share a heartfelt poem written by one of our counsellors, which serves as a powerful introduction to the themes we’ll be exploring.

We Are Here . . .

We are here, we see you, through the darkness and pain.

We have no magic wand but together try to reclaim.

Reclaim what was lost, taken and hurt, offer space for your voice to finally be heard.

The first step is a referral, to a safe space and time, no promises or judgment but a warm heart and smile.

We recognise how hard it can be to pick up the phone, to come each week stepping into the unknown.

30 years KASP has been offering support, through the strength tears and fears we give our all.

So, thank you to all our survivors, over the years who’ve came, trusted KASP with their time, selves and pain.

to those yet to join us, when the timing feels right, KASP will be here like a lantern shining some light.

Raising awareness of childhood sexual abuse and the effects is a crucial step forward to helping to provide a safer community for children, survivors and others involved. By educating ourselves and supporting survivors, we can help to break the silence and stigma surrounding this often life debilitating issue.
