What do our volunteers say?

My befriending experience started 4 years ago with kasp, and I thoroughly enjoy my time as a befriender. I look forward to visiting my befriendees every week, and believe that doing something so worthwhile leaves a lasting positive impact on them too.

Volunteer Befriender

As a trainee counsellor supporting adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, I’ve found the experience both deeply meaningful and professionally enriching.
From the outset, I’ve felt genuinely welcomed and supported by the team. The environment you’ve cultivated is not only trauma-informed and client-centred, but also one that fosters learning, reflection, and growth. It’s clear that staff are not only passionate about the work but also committed to holding space with compassion, sensitivity, and integrity. That ethos has been invaluable to witness and be part of.
I’ve also appreciated how thoughtfully the service integrates support for trainees. The supervision, ongoing guidance, and informal check-ins have been essential in helping me develop my confidence and clinical awareness. I’m grateful for how seriously you take the learning journey, and for how invested the team is in helping trainees develop safe and ethical practice.
As a trainee social worker I had several placements, and have found my current one with you far superior.
Thank you again for the opportunity to be part of this important work. It’s been a privilege, and I’ve learned a great deal that I’ll carry forward in my development as a counsellor.

Volunteer Counsellor Placement

I’m thoroughly enjoying my role as a befriender with KASP, it has taken me out of my comfort zone and allowed to me to meet a variety of people I wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise. The difference a couple of hours of my time makes to someone who is socially isolated is immeasurable. My confidence has grown over the last year and my voluntary role has given me a new direction in life. I have recently started the COSCA counselling skills course and although I’m finding this challenging, I’m hoping that the skills I’m learning will be of benefit. I’m delighted to be a part of the KASP family, and I’m proud of the work we do and the people we engage with.

My experience as a trainee on placement at KASP was a very valuable part of my training that I have taken a lot away from. I will always remember my time here and the clients I worked with will always be in my thoughts. I'm very humbled by the feedback I received from them and the fact that people who have such deep rooted trauma felt they could open up to me in the way that they did.
The team at KASP are lovely, very welcoming, friendly and approachable, always supportive and offering to listen if I ever needed a bit of support throughout my time here. I would recommended KASP as a placement for trainees to accrue their clinical hours while at the same time working in a nice atmosphere and also being offered very valuable CPD which furthers both your learning and knowledge as a counsellor and is valuable to use in your practice.
I feel my confidence as a counsellor has grown as a counsellor since working with KASP as well as gaining further knowledge and experience both through client work and the various different training courses I done throughout my time training here.

Volunteer Counsellor Placement

Thank you all for the support you've given over the past two years. The structure you provide holds us all - counsellors and clients. It's what makes the whole thing possible.
Thanks to KASP, I dared to venture into a field that would have been way too daunting on my own. I'd never have dared take on that responsibility alone. I've learnt so much during my time at KASP - about shame and trust, the legacy of childhood trauma, and also the possibilities that open up when you really try to understand someone's experience from their point of view over a sustained period.
Thank you - for the flowers and the card but most of all for being there.

I have so enjoyed my time with KASP. I felt included and involved right from the start. The training was thorough and gave me a real grounding for starting to work with survivors.
Someone from the staff team was always available when I came out of my sessions in the evening. Support was gentle and encouraging. Having my placement with KASP has given me the tools to be more confident to be able to provide my own service to clients.
I really just cant thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to volunteer.
